Bodies, culture, paradoxes: comments on capoeira game

Muleka Mwewa, Alexandre Fernandez Vaz

Abstract

This essay is devoted to reflection on elements that compose the capoeira game, looking for its place in Afro-Brazilian’s culture, also in its impasses and paradoxes. It dedicates, for so much, special attention to the standardization of popular culture, to the social place of the black body and the expectations that are driven it: strong, virile, animal. Looking for the dialectics of culture in the self-domain and in the movement of approaching and estrangement of organics, the text is in charge of hierarchy dynamics and production of marks and corporal movements adapted to the consumption. It looks for, with that, to indicate the contemporary subjective uncertainty.
